Employers tell Blackpool students exactly what they are looking for.

A series of talks on subjects such as apprenticeship routes, careers in the NHS and potential engineering career paths will be delivered as part of the college’s spring talks programme.

The first round of speakers have visited the sixth form, offering detailed and focused advice around particular business career paths.

Asqa Mirza, from Danbro accountancy firm in Lytham spoke to students about career pathways on offer and how to navigate educational qualifications to gain the best advantage for potential employment.

Robert Burns, from global outsourcing firm Capgemini, explained to students the variety of careers on offer in a global business environment. He focused on the skills needed to solve large complex problems within business areas and how to run accounts from a cultural perspective.

IBM’s Dominic Day spoke to students about the firm’s apprenticeship scheme.

Sian Roberts, from the college’s Futures team, said: “I wanted to create a programme for Apprenticeship Week which lasted more than a couple of days to highlight to our students the importance of work related learning alongside academic studies.

“The Employer Spring Term Programme combines employer talks with workshops, enriching student’s career education, knowledge and understanding about the ‘world of work’ helping them develop employability skills.

“By inviting external links into college, students are able to access independent advice and guidance for their career choices in the future.

“Particular emphasis has been made on inviting local companies in, who have been rated in The Times as the top 100 graduate employers or who are embarking on the new higher ‘degree’ apprenticeship launching in May 2017.

“We feel that this is a fantastic event for our students to take ownership of their future and find out what career related opportunities are out there.”
