Blackpool business owner Steven Orwin speaks out after devastating SmartMart blaze in Waterloo Road

A Blackpool business devastated by fire has relocated to a new temporary home in the resort.

Fifteen engines were called to the scene in Waterloo Road at about 11.30pm on Friday - with crews remaining at the scene on Saturday morning.

Smart Mart, Smart Play and South Shore Pitstop Cafe were among the businesses affected, with the indoor play area "completely destroyed" by the fire.

Today, business owner Steven Orwin shared an update on Facebook, saying SmartMart - the home furniture store - will be relocating to the former Factory Outlet Sofa Superstore in General Street.

In a video from outside the store, the 45-year-old confirmed "no one was hurt” in the blaze and thanked the community and emergency services for their support.

Mr Orwin also confirmed the business will continue trading from its temporary home in General Street.

He said: “This is our new temporary store, hopefully to be our new full-time store.

“It’s on General Street, just off the Prom. We would love your support and help to share this and come visit us.

“Thank you all for everything. We cannot believe how many people are helping and we love every single one of you, thank you.”

He added: “As you are probably aware, Friday night was absolutely devastating for the SMARTMART team.

“Thankfully no one was hurt and we wish to thank all the emergency services that attended. We are all a little lost for words right now and need some time to absorb.

“We appreciate that we have customers who have purchased items and are awaiting delivery or collection of their items.

“Sadly our paperwork has been lost in the fire, so we would ask any customers who are currently awaiting their orders to if possible - Send over a copy of your receipt to our messenger so we can collate and process refunds.

“If you are unable to do this, please be patient while we establish a temporary office where customers will be able to attend and speak to us in person.

“With heartfelt thanks for your continued support.”
