Kevin Sweeney then dived onto the Perspex counter at Ali’s takeaway, Central Drive, which collapsed and crashed to the floor.

Sweeney, 25, of Hornby Road, Blackpool, pleaded guilty to threatening behaviour and causing damage.

He was sentenced to do 120 hours unpaid work for the community, ordered to pay a £150 court charge with £400 compensation plus £80 costs and £60 victims’ surcharge by Blackpool magistrates.

Prosecutor, Pam Smith, said Sweeney went into Ali’s takeaway with two men on July 16 at 2.30am.

The group had two dogs with them and they were asked to take the dogs out.

Sweeney then threatened to rip off the assistant’s head and set the dogs on him before he dived onto the counter.

Peter Manning, defending, said his client had been celebrating his birthday and had had too much to drink.

Sweeney said the assistant first made a provocative remark to him.

He denied saying he would set the dogs on the assistant.

The defence added that Sweeney had reached over the counter to find an onion bhaji but because he had had so much to drink, he unintentionally fell on the counter.
