Driver’s anger in hit-and-run car mystery

With just a week to go before the lease was up on her white BMW, Rebecca Meyrick was stunned to discover the huge dent in the rear door.

She believes a van may have crashed into the side of her car and driven off. She is now appealing for help to find the person responsible – or she faces paying the £350 excess on her insurance herself.

Miss Meyrick, 27, of Thornton, said: “The most annoying part is I’m meant to be handing the car back. I can’t do that until it is fixed.

“Somebody must have heard it – the noise must have been horrible.”

She does not know exactly when the incident happened but believes it was either outside her Sandwell Avenue home or while she was parked up outside the Royal Mail delivery office on Bispham Road, Cleveleys, on Tuesday.

The car was left badly dented, with traces of red paint left behind, and in need of major repair.

Miss Meyrick, who works in advertising, said: “It needs a full new door. It’s got all black scuffs and red marks at the top. I got to work and my colleague came in and asked ‘what happened to your car?’

“I went round my neighbours but nobody heard a thing. They said it wasn’t like that when they left in the morning.”

She also enquired about CCTV footage near the Royal Mail depot but was told the cameras nearby do not cover the spot where she parked.

But she is convinced someone must have seen who hit her car. She added: “I was only in Cleveleys for two minutes –I was in and out.

“But there was a man in the car in front who would have heard something.”

The incident has been reported to police, who are now investigating.

A Lancashire Police spokesman said: “We got a call at 1.50pm on Tuesday.

“A woman reported that someone has crashed into her vehicle and damaged one of the doors. She thinks it was a van because the damage is quite high.”
