Jack Hague then left the accident scene and when apprehended and asked if he knew why he was being arrested, replied: “Yes, because I’m an idiot.”
Hague, 25, of Fleetwood Road North, Thornton, pleaded guilty to driving with excess alcohol, failing to stop after an accident and causing damage when he appeared before Blackpool magistrates.
Alison Quanbrough, prosecuting, said Hague was driving a transit van when he crashed through the wall of Blackpool’s Highfurlong School, ending up 10 metres inside the grounds on August 21 at 2.30am.
Hague left the scene and was found later at his girlfriend’s by the police.
A breath test showed 101 micrograms of alcohol in his body – 35 is the limit.
David Charnley, defending, said his client, who had no previous convictions, had argued with his girlfriend then jumped into his van and driven off.
Hague had acknowledged straight away he had been stupid. He was fined £800 with £85 costs plus £50 victims’ surcharge and disqualified from driving for two years.
