Dream comes true for club with own home

Streetwise, with more than 100 members aged from five to 16, has taken over the former Army Welfare centre in Warton.

After previously renting hall space in Lytham and Freckleton, Streetwise has moved into the centre in Butler’s Meadow on a seven-year lease and the club’s co-founder Elaine Gregoire said: “ We are thrilled to have the keys to a home of our own.

“It means we will be able to provide positive activities for youngsters seven days a week.

“We even have a mums and tots club in mind – and that’s just for starters.

“We have renovated the facility in just 10 weeks, with all the work done by volunteers and the help of Kirkham Prison.

“It has two halls, one with a stage and lighting, the other is a games room with pool table, computers and sofas.

“There is also a fully equipped music room and recording studio.”

The property includes surrounding gardens and land which are intended to be converted into play areas and allotments.

Elaine said: “It’s wonderful – dreams really do come true.”
