‘Don’t lose your World Cup bottle’

Celebrations are expected to generate a significant increase in the amount of waste, such as glass bottles and jars, cans and plastic bottles.

All the items can be recycled at home in the blue bin or green box provided by Fylde Council.

Coun Albert Pounder, Fylde Council cabinet member for Operational Services, said: “Residents do a fantastic job recycling throughout the year and we have seen a recent five per cent increase, to 48 per cent, of all waste recycled since the blue and brown bins were introduced.

“We’re asking people not to drop the ball on recycling during the World Cup and make sure every single glass bottle, glass jar, can and plastic bottle goes in the blue bin or green box.

“People will also be buying extra newspapers and magazines to keep up on tournament news – they can also be recycled and help us take our recycling rate even higher.

“The more we send to landfill, the more landfill tax that has to be paid.

“It all comes out of council tax bills so people can help themselves as well as the environment by recycling.”
