Thirty-five dogs joined in the canine capers at Auntie’s Doggy Day Care in Ward Street, Lostock Hall, which was held to raise money for charity Homeless Hounds, which takes in stray and abused dogs in the Lancashire area.

Lisa Pye, 46, owner of the centre, said: “It was a brilliant day. It’s something we try to do every year as a fun day that supports a great local charity.

“If anyone wanted to bring their dog in a Christmas jumper or an outfit, we asked them to donate to Homeless Hounds.

“Most of them did, so we had dogs dressed as Christmas puddings, snowmen and all sorts, though we took them off when they were running around.

“The men who brought their dogs seemed to love it even more than the women and we raised £60 in cash and had a reception area full of food.”

The dogs were also treated to a visit to Santa’s Grotto and got to open a huge parcel, discovering a range of treats when paper was ripped off.

At the end of the day, owners were presented with a card of their pooch with Father Christmas, and a post box has been set up so they can send cards to their doggie friends.

“We have a weird and wonderful set up”, added Lisa.

“It’s not easy to run something like this, but we’re very lucky to work here and it’s a phenomenal success.”

As well as helping Homeless Hounds, the day care centre also donated a Christmas meal in the name of each dog to Rochdale Rescue.
