A spokesman for the Coastguard said: "We were called out to a dog that had fallen into a gully and somehow managed to get itself stuck.

"Using a ladder, our crews managed to get into the gully and extract the dog.

"Thankfully the dog was absolutely fine, and the owner was very happy to be reunited with his pet.

"We would like to remind members of the public that we will always do our best to rescue dogs.

"Please don't enter the sea or enter dangerous areas to attempt to rescue them.

"Dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard. It is much safer for our trained team members to go to the rescue than members of the public."
