Wayne Alexander was spotted slamming his fist into his girlfriend approximately 20 times, and dragging her along by the hair.

Alexander, 39, of King’s Road, Cleveleys, denied assault but was found guilty of the offence after a trial.

King was sentenced to 16 weeks’ prison suspended for two years, put on up to 25 days’ rehabilitation to be supervised by the Probation Service, and ordered to pay £200 costs plus £80 victims’ surcharge by District Judge David Scanlon, sitting at Blackpool Magistrates’ Court.

The judge told Alexander: “The primary concern I have is protecting the community from people like you,

“Your behaviour was, to me, vile and despicable.

“You just punched someone like a rag doll and dragged them about the streets until you were stopped.”

Malcolm Isherwood, prosecuting, said a workman in the resort’s Marsden Road heard a woman screaming and saw Alexander punch her in the head, which snapped back, on November 19.

Alexander then dragged her along by the hair calling her vile names.

She fell to the floor and he pulled her up by the hair before punching her about 20 times, raining punches on her head, stomach and face.

The witness told police he was shocked by the venom and effort of the attack and said he would not be surprised if
the woman was ‘black and blue’.

David Charnley, defending, said his client still denied the assault and the woman had not made a complaint.
