Last year the centre won Guinness Book of Records recognition for the World’s Largest Bug Hotel, measuring in at 18.36 cubic metres. So it’s no wonder a 6ft dragonfly, a ginormous butterfly and a 4ft bumble bee have been banging on the door looking for a bed. Visitors to the attraction near Burscough will be able to cast their eyes on the enormous insects, brought to life by state of the art animatronics and sound effects, from July 28 until September 2. Centre manager Nick Brooks said: “We need families and children of all ages to visit Martin Mere and find these bionic bugs this summer.” You can collect your sticker book upon arrival and collect all the stickers around the centre, completing eight challenges as part of your bug-tastic day out.Challenges include gliding along on a canoe safari or embarking on a boat tour bug trail, bug-themed crafts and snapping your own photographs of the giants themselves. If you collect more than six stickers, you’ll be awarded with your own special accolade as part of the centre’s daily ceremony at 3.30pm.For further information and a full list of activities visit wwt.org.uk/bionicbugs
