Dates announced as Lytham 1940s Weekend returns this summer with two days of free celebrations

The dates have been confirmed for the return of Lytham’s hugely popular 1940s Weekend - and families won’t have long to wait.

The much-loved event will step back in time on Saturday, August 15 and Sunday, August 16 this summer, when Lytham once again transforms into a living tribute to the wartime era with two full days of free entertainment from 10am to 5pm.

The main entertainment marquee on Lytham Green will host wartime speeches, live music and dancing inspired by the 1940s.

Performers include Derek Herbert as Winston Churchill, Colin Bourdiec singing ENSA favourites and George Formby classics, Johnny Victory, and returning crowd favourites The Bluebirds.

Helen Farrell will make her Lytham debut, while Lancashire Belle Jane Francis will appear on the Saturday.

Away from the main stage, visitors can explore military vehicle displays and dance to a resident 1940s DJ at the Mussel Tanks near the Promenade, with additional dancing in Clifton Square.

Vintage traders, weapons displays and military charities will help recreate the atmosphere of wartime Britain. A licensed bar will operate inside the main marquee.

Councillor Jayne Nixon, Fylde Council’s lead member for tourism, leisure and culture, said the weekend had become a highlight of the local calendar.

She said: “Lytham 1940s Weekend has become one of our most popular annual events, bringing together families, history enthusiasts and our community to celebrate this important era.

“It’s wonderful to see Lytham come alive with 40s glamour, and the weekend offers something special for everyone to enjoy completely free of charge.”

For those wanting to continue the celebrations into the evening, the Kalamazoo Dance Band will return for a ticketed performance on Saturday night, with doors opening at 7pm.
