Yobs torch golf cart in yet another arson attack

The buggy was the third to go missing from the course in recent months, officers said today, while one was torched at the club in June.

One has been recovered, while the other is missing.

PC Matt Greer, from Blackpool Police, said: “These buggies are not built to be driven on the road, which is where the thieves must have taken the one we covered to get it to where it was found.”

He added: “They could be dangerous and cause lots of damage in the wrong hands.”

An officer found the buggy on land just off Dingle Avenue at around 1pm last Thursday, along with the burnt-out remains of one mobility scooter, and the remnants of a second one.

PC Greer, who has appealed for help in finding the thieves responsible, added: “These are often a lifeline for people to help them get out and about when they are unable to walk. They must belong to someone.

“I would ask anyone who has had their mobility scooter stolen, or might have any information about them being taken, to get in touch.”

Firefighters were called to the golf club on Monday, June 19, when a buggy – the club’s last – was set on fire.

Manager Sharon Brookes said at the time: “We currently don’t have any golf buggies in use after all four were stolen and damaged in a series of thefts.”

Nobody at the club was immediately available for a comment this afternoon.
