A man aged in his 50s has died from stab wounds at a detached home in North Houses Lane, St Annes

Emergency services were called to the home at 4.55pm on Sunday (November 30).

Who has been arrested?

A 55-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of murder and is currently in custody. The woman's relationship to the man is not yet clear.

Crime Scene Investigators (CSI) are at the scene this afternoon (December 1), where a blue forensics tent has been set up in the driveway.

A number of police vehicles are parked outside the home, which has been cordoned off with police tape.

What happens next?

Lancashire Police detectives say the murder investigation is still an a "very early stage", but a 55-year-old woman is being held in custody on suspicion of murder.

Det Ch Supt Ian Whitehead, from the Force Major Investigation Team, is leading the investigation and is appealing for anyone with who saw anything suspicious or anyone with CCTV or dashcam footage to get in contact.

What has Lancashire Police said so far?

Det Ch Supt Ian Whitehead said: "Firstly, my thoughts are with the deceased man’s loved ones at this incredibly difficult time.

"We are at a very early stage of our investigation and, while an arrest has been made, we need to establish the full circumstances of what has gone on.

"I know this incident will cause a great deal of shock in the community, but I would like to reassure residents that our dedicated officers are working hard to establish the full facts behind the man’s death and bring whoever is responsible to justice.

"We will be increasing the number of officers on patrol in the area over the coming days."
