Thief stole cancer charity cash

A callous thief stole money destined for a cancer charity from a Lytham bank.

Joseph Edwards, 52, of Saville Road, South Shore, Blackpool, pleaded guilty to three offences of theft and admitted breaching a conditional discharge imposed for an offence of theft.

He was sentenced to eight weeks jail suspended for 12 months, put on one year’s supervision with six months drug rehabilitation and ordered to pay compensation of £40 to the Marie Curie cancer charity plus compensation of £97 to Stringers department store by Blackpool magistrates.

Tracy Yates, prosecuting, said Edwards stole a Marie Curie cancer charity box containing £40 in cash from the Royal Bank of Scotland, Lytham on November 7.

Two days later Edwards went into Stringers store at Lytham with a woman accomplice and took two bottle of perfume and a bottle of aftershave valued at £194.
