Police were called to the site the next day (May 25) and the group was escorted off the car park after they reportedly failed to comply with the order.

However, the convoy of caravans and motor homes set up camp just 1.5 miles away at North Beach car park on North Promenade.

There have also been reports of another illegal beach front encampment on a car park near the RNLI Lifeboat station in South Promenade.

People have now taken to social media to express their thoughts on the situation.

One person who believes they aren't doing anything wrong said: "People need to stop worrying about everyone and worry about themselves.

"They're not hurting anyone so leave them alone."

Another added: "They shouldn't be evicted in this time with what's going on.

"They are probably trying to be nearer to more shops open for them."

Some readers, on the other hand, believe what they are doing is illegal and they should be moved on.

One person said: "Not really doing themselves any favours. If people didn't like them before then flouting the rules during the current situation will just rile people up.

"I'm not saying they can't come. Just follow the rules and don't camp illegally."

Another reader added: "Fine them and scrap the caravans. They will not come to Blackpool again. We are on lockdown so that means no holidays."

One person who agreed their vehicles should be seized said: "Police now have the power to take vehicles. Why don't they use it."

In a statement issued yesterday, Fylde Council said: "We are aware of the Beach Terrace car park premises and we are taking all measures possible to investigate the illegal encampment working with partners."

Fylde Council has been approached for an update this morning (Tuesday, May 26).
