Wesley Magee, 37, drink-driving

A university lecturer was caught driving while more than twice over the limit after a night out in Blackpool.

Wesley Magee, 37, of Twig Lane, Liverpool, who lectures at The University of Central Lancashire (UCLAN) pleaded guilty to driving with excess alcohol.

He was banned from the road for 17 months, fined £530 with £85 costs and ordered to pay £53 victims’ surcharge.

Prosecutor, Pam Smith, said police stopped Magee as he drove a Vauxhall Corsa on Banks Street, Blackpool, on January 26, at 3.45am.

A breath test showed 71 microgrammes of alcohol in his body – 35 is the limit.

Defence lawyer, Ivan Dicksinson, said his client, who had no previous convictions, had pleaded guilty at the first opportunity.

Magee had been for a night out at Blackpool.

He had stopped at a B&B slept, eaten and set off early. He was then stopped by police and found to be over the limit.

Richard Robinson, drunk and disorderly

A man alleged to have been drunk and disorderly at Blackpool North railway station has had his case adjourned until February 26.

Richard Robinson of Dallington Avenue ,Clayton le Woods, is a patient at Preston Royal Infirmary being treated for a broken jaw.

Michael Barlow, drink-driving

A man was arrested for drink-driving after he was caught short on Blackpool’s Dickson Road.

Michael Barlow was seen urinating in an alleyway. Police were suspicious and when he took the wheel of a van to drive home to Bolton he was breath tested.

Barlow was double the limit and he was banned from the road for 40 months. He must pay £237 costs.

Kane Murgatroyd, 19, assault and theft

A teenager accused of assault has been put on the wanted list. Kane Murgatroyd, 19, of Horncliffe Road, South Shore, is charged with assaulting a man at Thornton on September 21.

He is also accused of stealing two crates of lager valued at £26 from Butts Food and Wine Store, Thornton, on the same day.

Magistrates issued a warrant without bail for Murgatroyd’s arrest after he failed to attend court.

Ivanciu Bonculescu, 30, drink-driving

A Romanian man accused of drink-driving had his case adjourned for an interpreter by magistrates. Ivanciu Bonculescu, 30, of Mather Street, Layton, is charged with driving a Nissan on the M55 with 51 microgrammes of alcohol in his body – 35 is the limit – on January 25.

Jack Morrisey, 19, handling stolen goods

A Blackpool man was found with two stolen bank cards in his possession when he was searched by police.

Jack Morrisey admitted handling stolen goods.

Morrisey, 19, of Charnley Road, was given a one year conditional discharge and must pay £105 costs.

His lawyer, Brett Chappell, told the court: “This young man is already subject to a probation order and is doing well. In the past he has been vulnerable and easily led.

“He has now cut his ties with a negative peer group.”

Morrisey said he was given the cards which had been stolen by others in a burglary in Blackpool.

Hannah Ali, 25, theft and breach of Criminal Behaviour Order

A Blackpool woman accused of stealing £330 in cash has been sent for trial at Preston Crown Court.

Hannah Ali, 25, of Central Drive also faces an allegation of breaching a Criminal Behaviour Order by sleeping tough in a town centre doorway . She was bailed by Blackpool Magistrates pending her apppearance on the theft allegation at the higher court on a date to be fixed.
