Teens in court for theft from OAPs

Two teenagers have appeared at court charged with targeting elderly victims.

Francis Cawley, 18, of Stirling Road, Layton, and a 17-year-old who cannot be named for legal reasons made their first appearances at court each charged two counts of theft and two counts of attempted theft.

They are also charged with stealing a van worth £7,000. They are further charged with receiving stolen goods - a set of registration plates from Rochdale.

Cawley and his co-accused face a charge of attempted theft from an 81-year-old woman from Beech Avenue, Kirkham.

They are charged with theft of a purse containing £50 and bank cards from an 88-year-old woman from Ferrier Bank, Warton.

They are also accused of the theft of a bag containing £100 and bank cards from a 89 year-old pensioner in Southbank, Lytham.

The final allegation is one of attempted theft from any 82 year old woman on Mythop Road, Lytham.

Blackpool magistrates decided their cases must be heard at Preston Crown Court. Francis Cawley was remanded in custody until he appears at the higher court.

The 17-year-old was remanded to youth detention until he also appears at the higher court.
