Charlie Oliver served seven years in jail for the attempted rape of a girl under 13, but only weeks after being released from prison he was caught with indecent pictures of children on his mobile phone.

Oliver, 25, of Trafalgar Road, South Shore, Blackpool, pleaded guilty to five offences of possessing an indecent photograph of a child. He also admitted possessing a prohibited image of a child.

He was remanded in custody to appear for sentence at Preston Crown Court on December 10 by District Judge David Purcell sitting at Blackpool Magistrates’ Court.

The judge was told that on August 29 Oliver was released from a seven-year prison sentence after being convicted of attempting to rape a girl under the age of 13.

Indecent

Pam Smith, prosecuting, said that on October 24 Oliver was visited by police at his home.

His mobile phone was seized and it was found to contain indecent images of children, some at the highest level of indecency.

Patrick Nelligan, defending, said his client was drunk when he had a discussion with a friend who asked him if he wanted some pornography put on his phone.

Oliver believed the pictures on that site were of women 18 or over, but who just looked younger.

Police however had estimated the ages of the girls pictured on Oliver’s phone as between 12 and 14.

Oliver had asked for help from mental health specialists, the court heard.
