Mark Leech, who studied agriculture at Myerscough College, tried to help the bird after he came across it in the KFC car park in Devonshire Road at 8pm last night (May 28).
"It was awful, I tried to tempt it over with some chips but it wouldn't come within 20 feet," said Mark.
"It must live around that area, so the perpetrator probably lives around there too.
"It's horrendous to look at, but it flew around perfectly.
"I just hope they catch the cruel person who did this."
