Loren Sirbu, 22, of Central Drive, Blackpool, who had the court proceedings relayed to him in Romanian by an interpreter, pleaded guilty to driving while disqualified without insurance.

He was sentenced to a 12 months community order with 40 hours unpaid work for the community, had his existing driving ban extended for six months and ordered to pay £85 costs with £85 victims’ surcharge by Blackpool magistrates.

Prosecutor, Pam Smith, said police saw Sirbu driving a Volkswagen Golf on the resort’s Princess Street, on October 7 at 8.45pm.

Checks revealed he had been disqualified for 21 months in December 2016 for an offence of driving with excess alcohol.

He claimed he had forgotten about the ban.
