Police release update after man is arrested on suspicion of attempted murder in Blackpool

Lancashire Police released an update after two men were arrested following an alleged wrecking spree across Blackpool.

The pair - aged 31 and 28 - were taken in for questioning after a dark coloured Vauxhall Insignia smashed into a tree and garden wall in Marton Drive, South Shore, following a police chase.

Minutes earlier, at around 11pm last Thursday, the same car was driven onto the pavement and at a police officer called to a "disturbance" in Central Drive, central Blackpool, the force said.

And shortly before that, at around 10.45pm, the Vauxhall was suspected of smashing into a blue Citroen C3 in Bispham Road, Bispham, leaving its female driver - a grandmother - badly shaken but unhurt.

The 2018-plated Citroen was written off after suffering extensive damage to its right side after allegedly being side-swiped while indicating to turn right.

The 31-year-old was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, dangerous driving, failing to stop, and drink-driving.

The 28-year-old was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, failing to stop, and drink-driving.

Both were quizzed before being released under investigation.
