Arriving at the scene on Tuesday evening (April 28), firefighters found a couple sitting in their car on the Prom whilst cooking their supper on a portable BBQ on the pavement.

Fire crews reported the incident to police, and within minutes, two patrol cars and a police van arrived at the scene, surrounding the pair's car.

Questioning their actions, officers learned that the pair, a man and a woman, had driven to Blackpool from 'out-of-town' to enjoy their al fresco supper.

The couple's unusual dining experience swiftly turned into a farce when it began pouring down as they tried to explain the bizarre situation to police.

The pair were each handed a £60 fine for flouting lockdown restrictions.

South Shore Fire Station shared a picture of the scene, tweeting: "Last night saw us attend a small fire on Blackpool Promenade which turned out to be two people from out of town having a BBQ. Blackpool is not open to tourists...#StayAtHome".
