Man suffers serious injuries after South Shore 'hammer attack'

A man was taken to hospital with serious injuries after he was attacked with a 'hammer' in South Shore, say police.

Officers attended the scene and found a 30-year-old man at the scene with serious injuries.

The man was taken to Royal Preston Hospital for treatment to a head injury, as well as broken ribs and a fractured back.

Following an investigation, two men were later arrested in connection with the incident.

Detectives say they believe the man had been attacked using a hammer and are now appealing for witnesses to come forward.

Det Con Chris Hammond, of Blackpool CID, said: “We are appealing for witnesses following a serious assault in Blackpool.

“We believe a number of people were in the street at the time of the incident and may have seen what happened.

“We would urge anyone who can assist with our enquiries to come forward. Any information will be treated in the strictest confidence.”

Two men aged 48 and 49, both from Blackpool, were arrested on suspicion of assault and have been released under investigation pending further enquiries.
