Man charged with murder after baby's death

Detectives investigating the death of a six-week-old baby in Blackpool have charged a man with murder.

Police were called to a seriously injured baby boy three weeks ago.

The tot was taken from the home on Wyre Grove, Blackpool, to Blackpool Victoria Hospital and then transferred to the Manchester Children’s Hospital, where he sadly died five days later on March 15.

A Home Office post mortem examination showed the baby died as a result of head injuries.

David Christie, 35, of Wyre Grove, Blackpool, was initially charged with Section 18 wounding, but following the baby’s death he has now been charged with murder.

He is due to appear at Blackpool Magistrates Court tomorrow.
