A 58-year-old man has now been arrested on suspicion of firearms offences, police said.

Several roads in the area were cordoned off and officers urged residents to avoid the area while bomb disposal teams inspected the package.

A spokesman for Lancashire Police said: "A 58-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of firearms offences. He is currently in police custody.

"The property has been evacuated and a cordon remains in place with specialist support while the package is examined and the area made safe.
