Kirkham tanning shop remains open as police investigate suspicious fire

A Kirkham tanning salon remains open today despite a fire damaging part of the shop last night.

Kirkham Sun Centre on Poulton Street has advised customers it is still open despite the fire last night, which police and fire are investigating.

The shop, which is soon to be renamed Tan Time Kirkham, only reopened on April 12 after lockdown measures were relaxed.

The fire at around 9.30pm had destroyed a wood fascia on the shop's front which has now been boarded up.

Staff were seen at the shop earlier this morning tidying up and making some repairs.There was also a police car outside the shop at around 11am.

A post on the shop's Facebook page said: "Without going into much detail about last-night, I’ll let the correct procedures look into this before I comment further.

"We’ve had a clean and had everything officially checked over this morning. We are open as normal today 10am to 8pm."

Fire crews from Wesham, Lytham and Blackpool were called out to tackle the fire however the flames were brought 'quickly under control'.

After extinguishing the fire and making the scene safe, firefighters reported their concerns about what caused the fire to police.

Lancashire Police confirmed that it is investigating the fire, which is being treated as suspicious.

A fire service spokesman said: "Wesham, Lytham, South Shore and Blackpool fire crews attended a fire on Poulton Street in Kirkham.

"The fire involved a wooden fascia of a commercial premises. Crews quickly brought the fire under control using a hose reel and triple extension ladder.

"Crews also used breathing apparatus and a fan to clear smoke and make the scene safe.

"The cause of the fire is now under a joint investigation alongside Lancashire Police. Firefighters were in attendance around two hours."
