Injured worker fined for traffic cone incident

Alan Hollingmode, who had suffered serious injury in an accident where a colleague had split hot toffee over his legs, lost his temper because a shopkeeper told him he could not serve him with alcohol as it was too late.

Hollingmode, 26, of Dean Street, South Shore, pleaded guilty to behaving in a threatening manner.

Presiding magistrate, Ronald Taylor, told him: “Alcohol and pain medication do not mix.”

Jim Mowbray, prosecuting, said a shopkeeper on Central Drive said Hollingmode came into the shop and asked to buy some alcohol on November 23 at 12.45am.

The shopkeeper said he was unable to sell him drink because it was after midnight.

The defendant became aggressive calling shop staff “muppets.” He then went outside, started going on at a group outside and was then seen by police throwing a traffic cone at the group.

Stephen Duffy, defending, said a work colleague spilt hot toffee on Hollingmode’s leg in July. He suffered horrific injuries and had to have skin grafts.

Hollingmode had not been out for many months.

Drink and his pain medication affected his behaviour.

Hollingmode was given a 12-month conditional discharge and ordered to pay a £150 court charge with £40 costs plus £15 victims’ surcharge by Blackpool magistrates.
