Hurry up plea as vandals attack library

A window was smashed at Thornton Library over the weekend.

And volunteers fear more damage could be done if Lancashire County Council does not come to a deal quickly to hand over the site.

County Hall leaders are due to make a decision on the bid by Thornton Gala Committee by the end of this month.

Emma Ellison, who leads the group, was shocked by the damage.

She said: The library has been empty nearly six months now and the gala are still waiting to hear about our bid.

“How much more damage will happen before they make up their minds?”

The building, in Victoria Road East, was attacked between Saturday evening and Sunday morning and the damage was reported to police by Coun Andrea Kay, who helped volunteers submit their bids.

Shes said: “It’s disgusting somebody should do this.

“But when it’s not in use the building is vulnerable.

“It is months since the bid was submitted.

“Lancashire County Council needs to get on and make a decision.

“We have groups ready to use the library and we don’t want anybody else tempted to cause damage.

“There could have been volunteers already in place to prevent this.”

Nothing was stolen as a result of the smashed window.
