Horror on the Promenade as Peugeot is 'deliberately driven into pedestrians' in Blackpool
A car was deliberately driven into revellers on the Promenade in Blackpool, police said.
The dawn attack happened near North Pier at around 5.25am today.
The red Peugeot was driven off and officers followed it “at a distance” while coming up with a plan on how to stop it – but found it abandoned before the plan could be executed, Lancashire Police admitted.
The car was found empty on an unspecified residential street.
Insp Abi Finch-Hall said detectives believe the attack was an isolated incident.
A Manchester man, 30, was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and was still in custody this evening.
Insp Finch-Hall said: "We want to ensure the pedestrians who were struck by the vehicle are okay and would ask that they please get in touch with us.
"Despite the early hour there were several pedestrians in the area at the time of the incident.
"We believe there are also witnesses who have not yet been spoken to by the police."
