'Hand grenade' removed and evacuees allowed to move back into homes on Raikes Parade

People have been allowed to return to their homes after being evacuated in the early hours of today due to the discovery of a suspected hand grenade.

Raikes Parade in Blackpool was cordoned off at around 5.30am after the explosive device was found in one of the houses there.

Residents were ordered to evacuate and go to the Stanley Park community centre.

The Explosive Ordnance Disposal Team attended the property and the suspected hand grenade was removed by 12.20pm.

Police have now confirmed that the road has been reopened those evacuated have been allowed to return to their homes.

A 40-year-old man who was arrested in connection with the incident this morning remains in custody.
