Officers said the electrics had been bypassed and left dangerously hanging over open water, putting the whole street at risk of a serious fire.

An engineer from Electricity North West said he was "shocked" the property hadn't already gone up in flames, according to police.

A spokesman for Lancashire Police said: "Responding to community concerns and following reports of an attempted break in where suspects were armed with weapons, Blackpool Task Force have forced entry into an address in South Shore.

"The entire address had been taken over as a cannabis farm and the electrics over open water put the entire neighbourhood at a serious risk of a fire.

"This is not a victimless crime, these farms are associated with international organised criminal groups, make life a misery for neighbours and there has been a number of recent farms that have gone up in flames and it's only due to luck that no one's been hurt."
