Drunken woman was locked out of vets

Lisa Barton was aggressive towards staff at the People’s Dispensary for Sick Animals on Hawes Side, then let some dogs off the lead which ran into the road.

She also pushed her way into an examination room and grabbed hold of the woman vet’s uniform.

Barton, 42, of Harrington Avenue, South Shore, pleaded guilty to being drunk and disorderly. She was sentenced to a 12-month conditional discharge and ordered to pay £85 costs by Blackpool magistrates.

Pam Smith, prosecuting, said police received a report a woman was being aggressive to staff at the PDSA on January 24 about 9pm. They found Barton outside the vets.

She had no shoes on and told an officer: “I have been locked out because apparently I have been aggressive.”

Staff said they had had to lock her out of the surgery.

Barton had kept barging into an examination room grabbing the vet.

She then repeatedly swore at a police officer and, when arrested, shouted: “You’re only doing this to tick a box. I’m going to smash your face in.”

Kathryn Jamieson-Sinclair, defending, said: “It is now not just her being affected by her alcoholism, it is her beloved pets as well.

“She bitterly regrets her behaviour towards people at the PDSA, which is a charity for people who can not afford pay for private veterinary care.”
