Drunken student fled crash scene

A university student taking driving lessons with the ambition of becoming an ambulance driver was more than three times over the alcohol limit when he crashed.

Dean Craine smashed into a parked car and wall and then fled the accident scene. He was tracked down by his scent to his home by a police dog.

Craine, 20, of Threlfall Road, South Shore, pleaded guilty to driving with excess alcohol, driving not in accordance with his provisional licence and failing to stop after an accident.

He was banned from the road for 28 months, sentenced to an eight-week curfew from 9pm to 7am and ordered to pay compensation of £87 with £85 costs plus £60 victims’ surcharge by Blackpool magistrates.

Magistrate, Mark Cottrial, told Craine: “While there were no injuries, that was more good fortune than anything else.”
