Police were contacted at around 9.30pm on Friday March 2 after the raiders tied a rope to the freestanding ATM, located outside G Casino, and attempted to drag it away with a vehicle.

A force spokesman said that the ATM was pulled from the concrete and moved but was found with wires exposed and a rope tied round it, close to Osborne Road.

Det Sgt Steve Craig, of Lancashire Police West Division CID, said: “This was a brazen attempt to steal a cash machine and its contents from the Promenade which was ultimately unsuccessful.

“We believe the offenders were disturbed and abandoned the job but not before they had caused significant damage.

“We would like to speak to anyone who was in the area and saw the attempted theft, or anyone acting suspiciously to contact us.

“It is possible there were two vehicles involved – one may have been a pickup type.”
