Blackpool's bicycle owners warned over rise in thefts in resort

Bicycle thefts have been increasing in an area of Blackpool in the last month.

Resort police said reports of pedal cycles have increased in the Grange Park area and officers are warning residents to make sure their bikes are secure.

PC Jason Pritchard of the Grange Park and Layton Neighbourhood Policing Team said there are ways owners can make sure they are better protected against thieves.

He said: "Please ensure that you always lock your bike with a good quality lock such as a 'D-Lock', even if you are only away from it for a few moments.

"You can also register your bike at Bike Register so that if it is stolen, police can trace it back to you.

"Further information and advice about protecting your bike can be found at Lancashire Police as well."

Lancashire Police also advised if residents see anything suspicious or have any information about who might be stealing or handling stolen bikes they can contact the force on 101 or to remain anonymous contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
