Blackpool woman pleads guilty to manslaughter of her baby girl

A 21-year-old woman from Blackpool has pleaded guilty to the manslaughter of her baby daughter.

At Preston Crown Court today (Wednesday, February 3), Caitlin Jones, of Willowbank Avenue, admitted to the manslaughter of her eight-month-old baby Francesca Haworth.

Police were called by the Ambulance Service at around 7.30am on November 7, 2018, following reports a baby had been found unresponsive at a home in Frederick Street.

Emergency services attended with Francesca taken to Blackpool Victoria Hospital where she later died.

A Home Office post-mortem gave a cause of death as suffocation.

Jones was arrested and later charged with murder in July 2020.

However, following consultation with the Crown Prosecution Service, a guilty plea to manslaughter was accepted.

Jones has been bailed and will be sentenced in June.
