A man told police he had bought a house at the seaside by giving the owner a box of gemstones - and that he was waiting for his new girlfriend, Kourtney Kardashian.

Anthony Burgess moved into the property, watched TV, played music, had his post delivered to the address and investigated the rightful owner's plans to do-up the house in the future.

He also left a rose in the house’s front window for the 'Keeping Up with the Kardashians' star, who he told police he was dating.

Burgess’s weeks of being a 'cuckoo' only ended when the real owner went past the house at night and noticed a light on. In a statement to officers Burgess – real address St Annes Road, Blackpool - he said he had met a jeweller and told him he needed somewhere to live. The jeweller gave him the keys for a house on Taybank Avenue, South Shore, and Burgess moved in.

Burgess said: "I bought it with a collection of gemstones.”

While living in the property Burgess pawned some things he found inside, allowing police to charge him with burglary, which he admitted.

Mental health workers said Burgess did not pose a danger but possessed 'off beliefs'.

Burgess’s lawyer Stephen Duffy told Blackpool Magistrates Court that it was: "The most bizarre burglary case I have ever come across.

"This man has been having a chaotic life of late and the term of his bail on another matter meant he thought he could not live at his real address because it was next door to a witness in that other case.

“He has always maintained that he exchanged gemstones he had mined in Blackpool to buy the Taybank Avenue house.

"He also says he met Kourtney Kardashian at a drop-in centre and is going out with her."

Burgess was bailed and will be sentenced after his other court hearing.
