Blackpool man denies murder of former Garstang dad as trial begins

The trial of a man accused of murdering a dad has started at Preston Crown Court.

Matthew Pearson, 42, and originally from Garstang, died at Royal Preston Hospital on Sunday, August 2.

It is alleged he had suffered an earlier assault on Lytham Road in Blackpool, close to the junction with Bournemouth Road on Saturday, July 18 last year.

After regaining consciousness he walked to a nearby address, but later became unwell.

He was taken to Blackpool Victoria Hospital with serious head injuries, and later transferred to Royal Preston Hospital where he died.

Andrew Claydon 44, of Lytham Road, Blackpool, denies his murder and appeared by a video link as 12 jurors were sworn in to try him.

It is expected the case will be opened by prosecutors on Tuesday morning.
