Man accused of sexually assaulting teenage girl

A man accused of carrying out a sex attack on a 16-year-old girl in Blackpool has had his cases sent for Crown Court trial.

Blackpool Magistrates remanded Thomas Thompson, 55, in custody until he appears at the higher court.

The incident on November 22 last year led to Thompson being charged with sexual assault and a breach of his Sexual Harm Behaviour Order by being in the company of a child.

His next hearing will take place on March 21.

Man charged with GBH

A 48-year-old Poulton man has made his first appearance at court charged with assault causing grievous bodily harm.

John Valiant, of Shire Farm, Carr Lane denied assaulting Nicholas King.

He elected for trial which will take place at Blackpool Magistrates Court on August 23.

He was bailed.

Man charge with stabbing, robbery, shoplifting, hotel theft and drugs offences

A man has been sent for trial at Preston Crown Court charged with wounding a man with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

Jonathan Cullum, 32, of Eaves Street, Blackpool was remanded in custody by District Judge Roger Lowe sitting at Blackpool Magistrates’ Court.

An allegation of robbery carried out on another alleged victim was also sent to the higher court.

Cullum faces further charges of shoplifting and stealing two televisions worth £220 each from the Doric and Park House Hotels, as well as criminal damage to one of the TVs.

He was also charged with cannabis possession.

No smoke without …

Council environment staff were twice alerted to plumes of thick black smoke rising from a housing development site.

They claimed an initial warning to those running the building operation at Blackpool Road in Kirkham was ignored.

Local residents complained again and led to Fylde Borough Council taking action, with company director Sam Betts, 29, of Amberwood, Kirkham appearing in the dock.

He pleaded not guilty to two offences under the Clean Air Act of allowing dark smoke to be emitted from trade premises.

Council officers told the court that it was insulation waste which had been burned.

Betts denied he had been trying to cut corners and save money on a house build project.

He told the hearing he had organised a skip after the first warning, but admitted he had failed to turn up for a formal interview with the council in the weeks which followed.

Blackpool Magistrates found him guilty and ordered him to pay £2,853 in fines and costs.

Crack addict burglar

A man targeted Blackpool Transport 's main maintenance depot for three burglaries in quick succession.

Robert Dorrian, 42, of Ashton Road, Blackpool admitted stealing a computer and machinery worth a total of £5,571 in burglaries at Rigby Road.

He also admitted thefts from B & Q and a branch of McColls.

District Judge John Donlan sent him for sentence at Preston Crown Court where he will appear on March 28.

Defence lawyer Patrick Nelligan said the crimes were committed due to a crack cocaine habit.

The judge remanded Dorrian in custody.

Fleetwood woman jailed for 8 weeks

A Fleetwood woman was jailed for eight weeks for flagrant breaches of court orders.

Lucy Sherriff, 31, of London Street admitted breaching the terms of a suspended jail sentence.

Blackpool Magistrates imposed the eight week suspended term originally given for harassment.

The court heard that Sherriff failed to attend any probation appointments.

Meat for drugs

A drug addict stole supermarket meat to pay for his habit, Blackpool Magistrates heard.

Paul Sproat, 37, of Rawcliffe Street, Blackpool admitted stealing around £58 worth of meat from Lidl.

He was sentenced to a community punishment with a six month drug rehabilitation requirement.

Young man brandishes tomahawk war axe at couple

An 18-year-old waved a Native American-style tomahawk in front of a couple in the street.

Michael Blundell was dressed all in black when he produced the war-axe in Chaucer Street, Fleetwood on Sunday, February 12.

Blundell admitted having the offensive weapon in public when he appeared before District Judge John Rowan at Blackpool Magistrates Court.

The judge remanded him in custody ahead of his sentencing on March 7.

The court heard it was Blundell's first offence as an adult but he had previous convictions involving weapons as a youth.

His lawyer Gerry Coyle said his client admitted staring at the couple who were having a row.

He claimed the tomahawk was bought as an ornament and it had accidentally dropped out of his client's rucksack while he was taking it back to his home on Milton Street.

Drunk flung punch at police officer

A St Annes man flung a punch at a police officer who had arrested him.

Drunken Andrew Rossall, 41, of Walter Avenue admitted assault when he appeared at Blackpool Magistrates Court.

District Judge John Rowan told him: "This was a disgraceful piece of behaviour. The officer was trying to help you. Fortunately he was not harmed."

Rossall had been arrested after an argument with his sister. He told the court he was seeking help for an alcohol problem.

He was handed a nine month community punishment with five rehabilitation days and ordered to abstain from alcohol for sixty days.

He must also pay £285 in fines and costs.

3 x times over the limit

A man has admitted being almost three times over the drink drive limit.

Rafal Rozmanowski, 49, of Market Street, Wesham was arrested at the wheel of his Toyota car in his home town on December 9.

Blackpool Magistrates imposed an interim ban on him driving.

The court ordered pre-sentence reports on him and he was bailed to next appear in court on March 22.

Man admits assaulting girlfriend

A 20-year-old bike repairer was given a one year restraining order by Blackpool Magistrates.

Tyler Hurrell of Ingthorpe Avenue, Blackpool admitted assaulting his former partner by pushing her.

Tyler must pay £199 in fines and costs and ordered to complete 15 rehabilitation days as part of a community punishment order.

Man lobbed glass at next door neighbour

A man behaved recklessly during an ongoing row with his neighbours in St Annes.

Dale Jay flicked a glass which hit a woman in the garden next door.

Jay, 40, of Grassington Road, St Annes admitted assault causing actual bodily harm - the injury caused by the glass missile.

He was given a community punishment with 15 rehabilitation days and must pay £399 in fines and costs.

He must also obey a one year restraining order forbidding him to contact his neighbour.

Blackpool pair deny assaulting mum and her children

Two men have appeared at court charged with assaulting a mum and two of her children.

Blackpool pair Joseph Bradley, 33, of Ansdell Road and Callum Dewhurst, 22, of Gateside Drive both denied three charges each of assault.

They were bailed until their trial on June 1.

A 47-year-old Blackpool man has denied disqualified driving.

Lee Brougham was bailed ahead of his trial at Blackpool Magistrates’ Court on April 21.

Fleetwood man charged with controlling behaviour and assault

A 24-year-old Fleetwood man charged with controlling behaviour towards a woman has been remanded in custody.

Nathan Wilson, of Larkholme Parade, also faces three allegations of assaulting the same woman.

Wilson appeared before Blackpool Magistrates by video link and will next appear on March 9.

Warrant issued for Blackpool man

A warrant has been issued for the arrest of a 33-year -old Blackpool man.

It was issued after Ashley Tombs of no fixed address failed to turn up at Blackpool Magistrates Court to answer an allegation that he failed to keep in touch with probation after his release from a jail term.

Man to stand trial accused of burglary

A Blackpool man accused of burgling a house in Whitegate Drive has been sent for trial at Preston Crown Court.

Paul Barwell, 43, of Levens Grove was bailed by Blackpool Magistrates subject to not entering Whitegate Drive.

Barwell will appear at the higher court on March 13.

Man busted for drug driving after police spot check

An Ansdell man succumbed to the temptation to take drugs when he was going through a bad patch with his mental health.

But his decision to use cannabis and cocaine backfired, Blackpool Magistrates heard.

Daniel Watts, 47, of Fallowfield Road admitted two charges of drug driving.

He was honest with police when they pulled him over for a stop check on his vehicle.

He was arrested after a roadside drugs wipe proved positive.

He was given a nine month community punishment with 10 rehabilitation days.

He must also obey a 14 day curfew and was banned from driving for 23 months.
