Lewis Jones, 31, failing to comply with a condition of his bail

A man breached his bail only three days after being allowed it by a court.

Lewis Jones illegally entered Blackpool because his mother had told him to sort his alcohol problem out magistrates were told.

Jones, aged 31, of Kirkham Road, Freckleton, pleaded guilty to failing to comply with a condition of his bail.

Blackpool magistrates agreed to rebail him.

Prosecutor, Pam Smith, said Jones was bailed with a condition to his bail that he should not enter Blackpool except for pre-booked appointments with his lawyer and the probation service and to attend court.

On April 26 police saw Jones on the ramp at Blackpool North railway station.

Jones told officers he had had an appointment with an alcohol rehabilitation organisation, but when police checked with that organisation it was said Jones had not had an appointment and was currently not using their services.

Brett Chappell, defending, said Jones had been given an ultimatum by his mother to sort out his alcohol issues, so he had taken the train to Blackpool to try and seek help for this.

16-year-old, breaking curfew

A teenager arrested after being late back from the shops for his curfew spent two nights in custody a judge was told.

The 16-year-old St Annes boy, who can not be identified for legal reasons, pleaded guilty to breaching his bail.

District Judge Jeff Brailsford agreed to rebail him to the resort’s youth court where he will be sentenced for an offence of assault causing actual bodily harm, which he was convicted of after a trial.

Prosecutor, Pam Smith, said the teenager had been bailed on the condition he kept a 9.30pm to 6am curfew at his address.

On April 28 at 10.47pm police went to the teenager’s home.

He was not there but he returned at 10.50pm and was arrested.

Mitch Sarangi, defending, told the judge that the teenager had said he was late coming back from the shops.

The teenager, who had been on the bail conditions since August last year, had spent Saturday and Sunday in custody.

Neil Speakman, 32, assault

A farm worker on a stag do in Blackpool slapped and punched a door security officer after his group were refused entry to the Imperial Bar.

Neil Speakman then struggled violently as a woman police officer tried to handcuff him and had to be pepper-sprayed to be restrained.

Speakman, 32, of Bentley Hall Farm, Bentley Hall Road, Bury, pleaded guilty to assault and resisting a police officer.

He was fined £160 with £85 costs and ordered to pay £50 compensation with £30 victims’ surcharge.
