Blackpool assault victim 'still critical'

A man is still fighting for his life in hospital six days after an alleged assault outside a Blackpool shop.

Michael Rhodes, 47, remains in a critical condition at the Royal Preston Hospital following the incident in Exchange Street last Saturday.

It was reported earlier this week that his life support machine was going to be turned off.

Police said such claims were not true.

A 16-year-old boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was arrested in connection with the attack and has been charged with grievous bodily harm.

He is due to appear before Blackpool Youth Court on Monday.
