Joshua Bird then evaded police by fleeing upstairs, jumping out of a window and running off.

Bird, 23, of Lytham Road, South Shore, pleaded guilty to breaching bail. Blackpool magistrates agreed to rebail him.

Jim Mowbray, prosecuting, said Bird had been bailed on the condition he did not contact his mother.

On October 17 at 3pm, police went to Bird’s mum’s address in Endsleigh Gardens, South Shore, and found the defendant there in bed fully clothed.

Bird’s mum said her son had turned up the night before, saying he had no electricity and she reluctantly let him stay.

Bird asked police “can you not just let me go” before running upstairs, jumping out of a window and escaping. The next day police found Bird at his home where he again tried to flee by jumping over a rail and running.

Paul Robinson, defending, told magistrates that Bird said he had been at his mother’s with her consent because she needed him to look after her.
