Crews tackle major house fire

A major fire broke out at a home in Blackpool on Friday night.

Firefighters were called to Oregon Avenue at about 11,15pm, after neighbours saw flames pouring from a first-floor bedroom window.

Crews said there were flames and smoke coming from the house when they arrived, and four firefighters wearing breathing apparatus went into the building, initially fearing people were trapped.

Following a search, it was discovered that nobody was in the house.

Crew manager Andrew Jones said initial thoughts were that the fire started due to an electrical fault, but the cause is under investigation.

Two fire engines from Blackpool attended, along with one from Bispham, and were at the scene until about 3am.

Crew manager Jones said: “Fortunately, we managed to stop it spreading to next door.”
The upstairs of the home was severely damaged by fire, with moderate smoke and water damage downstairs.

Firefighters urged people to make sure they had a working smoke alarm at home.
