The building which was last occupied by Ex-Catalogue Store, was devastated by fire last Wednesday, June 3. Two teenagers were arrested on suspicion of arson.

Wyre Borough Council has confirmed the scene has been handed back to the council from Lancashire Fire and Rescue and is dangerous following the fire.

A council spokesperson said: “The Council has formally served notice on the owner to carry out the necessary works to make the building safe again in accordance with legislative requirements for such circumstances.

“The current road closures and safety fencing must remain in place whilst the building is a danger to the public and they are expected to remain for several weeks while the site is made safe.

“Our priority remains the safety of residents, businesses and visitors, and we will continue to provide updates as further information becomes available.”

Eight fire crews were called to the blaze who worked until 3am on Thursday morning to bring the blaze under control until there were just a few small pockets of fire left.

Firefighters also battled to prevent the fire from spreading to neighbouring properties in the town centre.
