A pre-inquest review at Blackpool Town Hall heard that Mr Thomson’s family had expressed concerns about some aspects of his care, including the timing of the cancer diagnosis.

Blackpool and Fylde chief coroner asked Lyn Ajanaku, representing the hospital, for more information on the case to be submitted to him ahead of the inquest, including notes from ward rounds.

Ms Ajanaku confirmed the hospital had no plans to carry out a review of its own into Mr Thomson’s case.

Mr Wilson set the date for the inquest for November 23, with the following morning also reserved if more time was required.
