Cooking stars aim for big win at competition

Culinary stars at Blackpool and The Fylde College have made it to the final of a UK cooking competition.

Student chefs Stewart Frame, Holly Evans and Emily Wilkinson made it through to the Country Range Student Chef Challenge final after their semi-final heat at Loughborough College.

The Blackpool and The Fylde College team, tutored by Steven Alexander, will cook off against seven other culinary colleges from around the UK on March 15 in the Live Theatre of ScotHot - Scotland’s biggest food, drink and hospitality show.

The students will be cooking a starter made up of quinoa, fennel, fig and orange, a main course of sea bream, with pea and spring onion puree and asparagus, an a rhubarb, honey, pistachio and yoghurt dessert.

Craft Guild of Chefs’ head judge Chris Basten said: “The team plated up some stunning dishes plus displayed some great team work and technical skills so thoroughly deserve to go through to the final.

“They still have time to make some amends to their menu before the final but they stand a great chance.”
