Controversial dog kennel plans withdrawn, council confirms

Jacqui Hamer had her registration with the Cockapoo Club of Great Britain suspended, the club said in November, while it looked into a complaint.

Some 25 objections were received after Ms Hamer, of Jay Doodles in Normoss Road, Blackpool, later revealed plans to convert her garage – with two people supporting the proposal.

The council confirmed the application had been pulled at the request of Ms Hamer. Documents relating to the case were no longer available, a spokeswoman said.

Despite the Cockapoo Club’s own probe, which it said it was taking seriously, the council said several investigations by the animal charity RSPCA had ‘never found any evidence of cruelty/sustained neglect or abuse’.

The club did not respond to an email asking for an update on its investigation.

Ms Hamer wanted her converted garage to house her five pet dogs, one of which would live inside her home, she said in documents lodged with the council’s planning department and previously reported by The Gazette.

“This would provide suitable accomodation for a small scale hobby dog breeding business,” paperwork read.

The drive in front of the garage would have been used as a run, and a roof would have been put up to protect the dogs from bad weather.

Ms Hamer said she proposed to have four breeding bitches ‘to have one litter every one or two years depending on when their seasons fall’.

A cockapoo is a mix between a cocker spaniel and a poodle.
