Colour Splash back on beach

The event raised £70,000 for the hospice on its debut last year and is back by popular demand, with increased numbers because 2015’s Colour Splash was completely sold out.

Participants will ‘colour themselves in’ over a 3km course which starts at Starr Gate and heads down the beach towards St Annes.

There are seven powder paint stations to run through, which have been sponsored by a range of local companies including Ribby Hall, RNS Publications and Beaverbrooks the Jewellers.

Linzi Young, head of fundraising for Trinity Hospice and Brian House Children’s Hospice, said: “We have increased our capacity with the agreement of Fylde Council because there were some disappointed people last time. The event in 2015 surpassed all expectations and really captured everyone’s imagination.

“Once again Colour Splash is a real family affair, with several generations signing up together. We have participants from primary school age to pensioners and it’s wonderful to see families and friends getting together to raise money for the hospice.

“Again, we have worked closely with Fylde Council to ensure the event doesn’t impact on the beach environment. The paint is actually coloured corn starch which the waves and the rain will simply wash away. We also have a big team of volunteers helping to keep the beach clear of litter.

“It’s going to be a great day, but my advice is to leave expensive cameras and phones at home because the paint even gets into your pockets - and this event is strictly no dogs: powder paint and pooches just don’t mix!”

Start time is noon, with a fun warm up and dance on the beach beforehand. Every entrant receives a pack with wristband, paint and sunglasses, and there will be more powder paint to buy on the day.
