Coastguards launch rescue search for 'vulnerable person' in Blackpool

Lifeboat teams launched a search from South Shore to North Shore for a vulnerable person who was found safely inland this afternoon, the coastguard said.

"Around eight or nine" coastguard vehicles from Lytham and Fleetwood were called to help police find a vulnerable person at around 3pm this afternoon (Monday, May 3).

The rescue team battled strong winds and heavy rain for around an hour until the missing person was located by police inland, the coastguard said.

A spokesman said: "We were called to help police locate a vulnerable person, but we stepped down about an hour later when police had found them inland.

"We searched between the Sandcastle and Norbreck Castle, which is why there were around eight or nine vehicles.

"Luckily, nobody got into any difficulty. Weather-wise, this is probably the worst bank holiday we've had so far."
